I finally unpacked my SLR and totally remembered back in May that I saw the breath taking cherry blossoms at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Even though it was bustling with people — the first true lovely Spring weekend — it was such a peaceful and meditative experience to walk through the gardens.

Phillip Lim for Target dress; H&M motorcycle jacket; LA Fenice sandals;
Anthropologie sunglasses.

Can we talk about how awesome this floral print Phillip Lim for Target dress is? I bought this dress on a whim and wore it once and never thought much of it. A few months later, I can’t get enough of it.

The pink hair? Don’t be fooled - it’s a Ricky’s hair extension. It’s so much fun to play around with other hair colors, without the commitment.

Here’s something you might not know about me: I’m a total beach lover. The surf, crashing waves, myths of mermaids, beach houses, sea glass, endless sand… I’m all over that imagery like any other poet. If I couldn’t get to the beach, I decided to be inspired by Malibu waves and a carefree attitude. A slashed boxy top reminds me of something a surfer girl shopping at Garage might wear. A pastel seafoam knit skirt added to the mix makes it like I’m some kind of mermaid in disguise. I wish.

All I ever have is five minutes. You can tell from my still damp hair in the above photo.
Sometimes, most of the time, I don’t devote that much time putting my face on.

I’m beginning to favor more simple but still striking looks. A glimmer of deep silver shadow, a swipe of my favorite lip pencil, and tried and true mascara are my daily staples. The NARS lip pencil is amazing with a light, non-drying texture. It’s my 90 year old grandmother’s favorite pencil, too. For real.

Photo Diary // Instagram Trinkets

Hi sweets! Recuperating from a sprain keeps me under the rader lately. Here’s some little glimpses on what I’ve been up to via my Instagram. (@kitschy_

I’m not planning regular weekly recaps (bo-ring). Though, if you’re curious about the more personal side of things in my life, feel free to wander over.

1. I get bored at train stations. Hello, feet.
2. Greenpoint’s The Habitat makes the best shrimp & grits ever. Now only if it was a regular item on the menu…
3. Getting back into the fiction writing groove. The Kate Spade bag is the perfect size for whatever notebook I’m toting around.
4. I may love to dress up but I love wearing this Motorhead tee just as much.
5. Tattoos prints in Oak & Iron.
6. A singular daisy, so beautiful.
7. Oh, New York.
8. Delicious. Healthy. Salad.
9. Playing around with a fishtail braid.

I’m gearing up for a fabulous image haul of a dark dancer crossed with a mysterious poet. My favorite eye candy features heavy doses of bright red lips, vintage silhouettes, temptingly colored high heels, a smidgen of French New Wave, my signature black wardrobe, flower crowns, motorcycle jackets, blunt bangs, and magical rhinestones.
