As much as I adore red lipstick and dramatic looks, let’s be real here. This is a typical every day look for me with just a little bit more volume. Gold tones and and some brown smoke. I used to be vehemently against nude lipstick, but I think I’m coming around…

Finally, a new makeup post! Here I am testing out a shimmery natural look. With some new goodies from Glossybox, I wanted to put a look together that could work for day (not too much dramarama) but stays cool for night (drinks, anyone?).

The light lilac powder is perfect for layering, but I am digging it on it’s own. It would also look neat as a highlighter. So far, I think this face of the day is going to make repeat appearances this spring, no?

Glossy Box International Style: Jet Set Beauty

I love getting little treats every month. Looking forward to Glossy Box is no exception. As the daughter of a self-proclaimed makeup maven, I did not stray far from the family tree where pretty eyeshadow and lush lipsticks are concerned.

With an international theme, I’m looking forward to exploring (and already testing!) out products that can make travel seamless but also just show me newfangled treats from around the globe.

Here’s my loot:

Bvlgari // Eau Parfumee Au The Blanc soap: A musky base that caught me by surprise (in a good way!). It’s a luxurious little soap that makes my skin feel soft, which is a nice restorative treat since my skin seems to always get hit by winter dryness.

Da Vinci Cosmetics // Shimmer Powder: I’m digging this shimmery shade. It’s perfect for a subtle smokey eye and I plan on testing it out for tonight.

Lisi // Eye Definition Cream Eyeliner: I never tried a cream eyeliner before and always meant to buy one. Good thing I didn’t since I am incorporating Lisi with tonight’s look.

Misha // Super Aqua Cell Renew Snail Hydro Gel Mask: Snails? Renew mask? I haven’t tried the mask yet, but it seems to have largely positive reviews and I’m keen on anything that recharges my skin.

Nail Rock // Nail Wraps: There’s been buzz on nail wraps. I’m a fan of nail polish strips, so I’m curious to see how these babies hold up. While my patterns is black and white - very Lydia Deetz in Beetlejuice. I feel that whatever I wear will have to be a wee bit muted (makeup and clothing) to off set such a bold manicure.

I’m jazzed to see what’s in store for next month!

Kat Von D True Romance Palette in Starstruck

Shades

  • Fallen (light bronze)
  • Pagan Poetry (shimmery chocolate)
  • Unrequited (warm yellow gold)
  • Hermit (shimmery red)

I’m a complete sucker for super pigmented eyeshadow. Since I have deep set eyes, I gravitate towards pearlized shades mainly of the neutral variety and use colors to add emphasis, rather than swatch my entire lid in say purple or blue. The gold, bronze, and chocolate hues are perfect for my day-to-day (and night!) wear, but I’m totally going outside my comfort zone and plan on experimenting with the red wine color.

This is my first adventure into the land of dark, slightly goth lipstick. Oh, I didn’t set out to use mostly Kat Von D products but it just ended up that way! I don’t think I’ll be making this a regular look anytime soon, but it’s fun. And sometimes, a girl just wants to be a little spooky.

This is just a simple and quick look I do when I want to sport a bold red lip but keep it easy on the eyes. I’m a sucker for light and shimmery shades that create just a bit of contrast on the eyelid.

FOTD: Vamp

On June 12th, I went downtown to a jewelry preview that was chock full of Stephanieisms — skulls, snakes, studs, gothy mermaids, mystical jewels. So my only choice was to vamp up my make up. And why not? It was definitely time to be saucy and sultry. One of the ways I up the drama factor is with some false eyelashes and these babies are only a $1 at Target. And they last! I buy the lashes in packs, for serious.

Makeup Breakdown: A Fatal Attraction

Makeup in America is good for your looks, but not so much for your health.

Fatal Attraction

While I certainly consider myself a makeup maven, I do try to buy as many worthwhile products that are free of toxins. If I can avoid putting harmful chemicals into my body—even itty bitty doses—it’s an investment in health.
