Outfit // Wings On My Ankles

{ July 24, 2014 }

Alexander Wang dress; Ancient Greek Sandals; H&M collar necklace.

I’m half Greek, which means that I’m automatically sold on anything mythology inspired. Angel wings at my ankles like Hermes? Absolutely. There’s no reason not to feel otherworldly.

Summer Check List

Today marks the first day of my summer vacation — I’m a teacher — and I’m excited to plan relaxation days, but also embark on meaningful, creative work. I put together a little check list of things I’d love to strike out before September.

  1. Get a massage.
  2. Vacation at Fire Island (for the first time).
  3. Finish my poetry collection inspired by tarot cards.
  4. Be adventurous with my palette and eat something I’ve never tried before.
  5. Host a brunch or dinner party.
  6. Read at least five good books.
  7. Soak up a poetry reading.
  8. See a minor league baseball game at Coney Island.
  9. Take a spontaneous day trip to Montauk.
  10. Take myself to the Met and its roof deck. I’m pretty jazzed for this.
  11. Eat Van Leeuwen ice cream in the park.
  12. Actually make it out to a PS 1 Warm Up dance party.
  13. Catch the Nicole Atkins show at Prospect Park.
  14. Put my hours of watching Top Chef to good use and make a meal outside of my comfort zone.
  15. Treat myself to a month of yoga.
  16. Catch up with old friends: brunch, lemonade, photos, and window shopping.
  17. Road trip to Ulster County, particularly Bard College and Tivoli.
  18. Watch fireworks from a rooftop.
  19. Volunteer more of my time to shelter dogs.
  20. Listen to other people’s stories.

What are you looking forward to accomplishing?

Hello, loves! Do you live in the New York City area? Love Brooklyn? Are you free Thursday 9/26?

Well, honey, you’re in luck! I’m co-hosting an adoption party at Dog Habitat. Come on over for drinks, delicious food, raffles, and gift bags. All money raised will benefit these little pooches who haven’t found homes yet. Even better: you can volunteer at the shelter, adopt a sweet dog, or foster a new friend that needs a loving home.

$12 at the door, but ordering tix online gives you a sweet discount

Please share with all your friends! And I would love to see you there.

P.S. There is going to be ice cream and it’s going to be dope.

The Amy O. Holiday Preview.

One part sultry, one part bad gal jewelry. Oh, I dig it indeed. I love the rhinestones, crystals, and chains. I even bought the darling little bow knuckle ring. It’s too precious without the extra dose of saccharine.

Photo Diary // NYFW

Here’s some loose change from NYFW. Honestly, most of the time I’m more interested in the little bits that don’t really belong anywhere else…

  1. My BCBG wedges along side Ashley’s Reed Krakoff numbers.
  2. Cute and oddly dark: the makeup artist’s sugar skull earrings.
  3. I’m obsessed with studs and Chris’s bag is too cool.
  4. See above. I totally want to do my own DIY of a studded backpack.
  5. I got some waves put in my hair at a beauty lounge. I should recreate it soon.
  6. Tessa test drove a top knot for the first time.
  7. I’m a shoe stalker. Girl, let me borrow your Charlotte Olympia heels for a sec.
  8. I do a good job of looking bored. I wasn’t!
  9. Super fashionable couple and so effortless.
  10. I love a sturdy pair of ankle boots. Not to mention, the irony of the crocs next to them…

Dress: BCBGeneration
Bag: c/o Lulu’s
Sunglasses: Queen of Hearts & Modern Love
Shoes: Nina
Ankle Cuffs: Gift from a friend
Studded Cuff: TJ Maxx
Earrings: nOir
Pendant: Vintage // from my grandmother

Hello, darlings! I don’t really have anything revolutionary to say that will make you wax poetics of a little outfit I wore to some fashion events. Yes, I’m still on my Blade Runner kick. I bear zero resemblance to Daryl Hannah in the film, but Pris provides great style inspiration. Asymmetrical lines are my friend. I love red lipstick. The sky is blue. What else is new?

A Sneak Peak Inside W/A Studios…

A few days after my birthday, I had the pleasure of checking out W/A Studios. Their designs are unique and enticing. Many of the pieces seem to be dark yet vibrant and full of serene mystery. I seem to have a penchant for shiny and sparkly baubles and W/A Studios is just the spot with dreamy jeweled bangles, a touch of sweet with crystal earrings, or perhaps a darling statement necklace in off-the-wall colors. And yes, I bought quite a few dramatic pieces myself.

P.S. Need some pretty jewelry in your life? Check out the Gilt sale on W/A studios here. (I wasn’t planning on finding a link to a sample sale, but I couldn’t resist sharing!)

Summertime Goth

{ August 16, 2012 }

Top: Trina Turk
Skirt: Vintage Saks Fifth Avenue
Sandals: American Eagle
Necklace: House of Harlow
Earrings: c/o W/A Studios
Bracelet: Forever 21

…Or, as I like to call this outfit: What would Lydia Deetz wear? In the heat?

This skirt has been in my closet since high school. Legitimately, I think I’ve owned this black satin maxi since I was 15/16 and went through a somewhat embarrassing and somewhat awesome goth phase. (Cue a Robert Smith obsession a decade too late).

Are there any objects in your closet that you’ve held onto for years? And at this point in my style - for over a decade!

Preppy Goes Punk

{ August 14, 2012 }

Top: Delia’s
Shorts: J.Crew
Sandals: Sam Edelman
Necklace: House of Harlow
Glasses: Zennioptical

This is probably the most “preppy” of an outfit I’ve done. And of course the only way to do that with my aesthetic sensibilities is to have khaki shorts with pyramid studs.

Strangelove

{ August 9, 2012 }

Top: c/o Oasap
Skirt: Helmut Lang
Shoes: Vince Camuto

It doesn’t matter what the season is because I will always find a reason to wear this Helmut Lang skirt. It’s perfect for hot and muggy summer days and transitions nicely with black stockings in the fall. The graphic light print is just amazing and when I first saw it in Barneys a couple of years ago, I stalked visited it once a week after work. Sooner or later it was on sale and it was mine. (Then I bought another).

I’m also swooning over the new shirt I picked up courtesy of Oasap. I wanted something asymmetrical and a bit minimal to reflect the Helmut Lang style and honestly I’m a complete sucker for a great tee shirt. Pairing this all with my favorite studded rose gold heels, I feel like some kind of neo-noir replicant femme fatale which is kind of fabulous.
